Come with us as we visit several widely different parts of the South American country of Guyana and meet Sunita, Denise and Stephanie! Imagine living on the banks of a river in an area where there are no roads. To go shopping, attend school or visit your neighbors, you have only one means of transportation - a small wooden boat. At 15, Sunita Persaud has many years' experience at leaving home around 8 a.m. in the family's six-seat boat. With her brother and sister, she paddles for half an hour to school in the village of Charity on the Pomeroon River, Guyana.
