Was interesting, brethren, to note what has happened to the King James wording of charity? And for that matter, in the world, what has happened to the meaning of love? And why did Mr. Armstrong have to hit upon something else? Charity today, which had the sense of the song as we heard it beautifully expressed, now tends to represent handouts and the dole, organizations that are devoted to one of the functions that Paul mentioned, as not really fundamentally descriptive of love. That is, though I give everything that I have to this and that person. Unfortunately, our word charity has lost the sense of love in doing that similarly. The 1960s and the early 1970s produced an amorous overtone outside of the Law of God for the word love, so that when Mr. Armstrong explains what love in the biblical sense means, he has to use some other word like give as distinct from get.
