During Christ's 3 1/2-year ministry on this earth, He gave many analogies - very descriptive analogies that revolve around farming or gardening in the more agricultural rural setting of that time. One such analogy is found in John 15. Christ said, beginning with verse 1: "I am the true vine, and my father is the husband-man [farmer, gardener]" - God the Father - "Every branch in me that bears not fruit, he takes away, and every branch that bears fruit he purges [prunes] it that it may bring forth more fruit." He says, "Now you are clean through the work which I have spoken unto you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you, except you abide in me.
