The greatest economic power in history is now being welded together by Europe's Common Market. Its impact - enormous and far-reaching will change the face of the whole earth. JANUARY 1, 1973 may well become a milestone in modern history. On that date, if all goes as planned, there will come into effect a commercial league of 16 Western European nations bound more tightly together than ever before in that continent's troubled and divided past. Only Spain - because of its lingering Franco semidictatorship - will be excluded, at least for the time being, from the new "Greater Europe."
