Success is more than money

One of the unique success stories of modern times is the incredible rise to wealth of a Texas businessman - H. Ross Perot. It deserves to be told in the pages of The Plain Truth. After graduating from the Naval Academy in Annapolis and serving in the United States Navy, young Perot became a salesman for IBM. During the time he worked for IBM, he became frustrated. He was a good salesman, and the company became concerned that he was making too much money, so it set a maximum limit on his sales. He reached this limit for the whole year of 1962 by the end of January of that year. At this time, Perot read an inspiring line from Thoreau's Walden: "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation." That moment was a turning point; he decided to go into business for himself. Perot says: "I decided I would rather be a young failure than lead a life of quiet desperation."
