1974 is World Population Year. Can man succeed in mastering his own numerical growth rate? Bucharest, Romania: Which approach is best -population control or economic development? This crucial question emerged still unanswered from the United Nations World Population Conference here as delegates from over 135 nations packed their bags for homeward bound flights. While the delegates were attending their 12 days of meetings, more than 2 million persons were added to the earth's population register, which now stands at close to 3.8 billion. For the year 1974, there will be over 70 million more mouths to feed. Yet world food production is expected to fall for 1974 over the previous year - only the second time this has happened in more than a decade.
