It is the year A.D. 2082 as we reckon time. A spaceship is hurtling through space at a speed approaching the speed of light. Inside is a lone figure who has traveled many galaxies since the beginning of his voyage into the cosmos. Ahead of him is a solitary planet. A red light flashes on a panel below where he stands. A spectroscope has picked up evidence of complex hydrocarbons and other gases that may indicate the presence of life. It has been a long and lonely journey. With excitement he begins punching a question into a highly sophisticated computer that can give him the answer he is looking for. Is life present? The reply comes back negative.
