Darwin is one of the fastest growing cities in Australia, although a few years ago it was almost totally destroyed. In 1974, tropical cyclone Tracy ravaged the city, but by May, 1978, the massive task of rebuilding was finished. The population, which before the cyclone was 47,000, is now 55,000 and still growing. Darwin is the capital of Australia's Northern Territory.
