How much difference can a teenager make? After all, don't you have to be old to be a servant of God? Imagine being 8 years old and being made ruler of a nation - especially one that is in serious trouble! Josiah was only 8 when he became king of Judah - and things were in a terrible mess. The nation stood on the brink of being destroyed and the decisions that Josiah had to make during his teenage years would determine the course of history for his generation. About 80 years earlier Assyrian armies had invaded northern Israel and had carried the 10 tribes into captivity. Several years later Assyrian armies had invaded Judah and surrounded Jerusalem.
