What could cause such strong feelings as these? The placement in Western Europe over the next three years, beginning in December, of 572 nuclear missiles by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Peace movements in Western Europe strongly oppose these missiles. Protesters in West Germany vowed to fight the missiles "in parliament and in the streets." In other countries scheduled to receive missiles protesters also plan a tough fight.
