LONDON: Mrs. Armstrong called my attention this morning to a most shocking item in The London TIMES. "Why!" she exclaimed, "are we living back in the dark ages, or is this the twentieth century?" The headline read: "LADY GARBETT LOSES FARM." And the subhead: "DISPOSSESSION ENFORCED." The dispatch was from Eascbourne, England. The story stated that Lady Garbett, widowed wife of Sir Colin Garbett, and her daughter Susan were dispossessed of their 163-acre farm in Sussex on May 28. This was done by order of the Ministry of Agriculture, on grounds that the land was not being properly farmed. Lady Garbett is aged about 70. She bought the farm in 1949. On May 28 Lady Garbett and her daughter were ordered to give up the farm by 3 P.M. They were moved out lock, stock and barrel.
