Herbert W. Armstrong founded the Worldwide Church of God in the late 1930s, as well as Ambassador College in 1946, and was an early pioneer of radio and tele-evangelism, originally taking to the airwaves in the 1930s from Eugene, Oregon.

Now we come to the supreme crisis in saving alive the new-born Ambassador College. Would you not have expected Jesus Christ to have "smooth sailing?" Would you nor have thought that the long - looked - for Messiah - the great EMMANUEL - GOD WITH US! - of all men, should have been free from obstacles and opposition? If so, you would have thought WRONG! Even Jesus Christ encountered probably the greatest persecution - the most colossal opposition - ever faced by any man! Is it any wonder, then, that in conducting His END-TIME Work, and starting His college, we met almost unsurmountable obstructions? Saran Strikes. Jesus said to those whom He trained to carry on God's Work, "If they have persecuted me, they will persecute you also."
