Romania and West Germany have reestablished diplomatic relations! The sudden action blasted a big hole in the Iron Curtain - and has frightened Russia! Bonn, German. In a dramatic diplomatic move today, January 31, West Germany has scored a major breakthrough in her relations with Communist Eastern Europe. This afternoon West Germany and Romania issued a joint communiqué announcing the signing of an agreement to establish full diplomatic relations between the two countries. This will make Romania the first Communist East European Satellite to send an ambassador to Bonn. Romania's Foreign Minister, Corneliu Manescu received a red-carpet welcome on his arrival at the Cologne-Bonn airport yesterday noon. The enthusiastic reception plus Manescu's obvious pleasure made the arrival appear more like a scene from an anti-Communist propaganda movie than the reception of a Communist diplomat.
