Paris. In May the world hopefully turned its attention to Paris. The Peace Conference that was to bring the final solution to the Vietnam War entered its initial phases. Then the unexpected happened! The apparent stability of De Gaulle's France - where the Conference was being held - was visibly shaken by the "May Revolution." What at first appeared as a simple domestic problem soon erupted into a major civil disturbance which affected the whole of France. Student flare-ups and workers' strikes became headline news. And in the furor, the Vietnam Peace Conference, which had been front-page news throughout France and Europe, became an item relegated to the back pages of the newspapers, when it was reported at all.
