Herbert W. Armstrong founded the Worldwide Church of God in the late 1930s, as well as Ambassador College in 1946, and was an early pioneer of radio and tele-evangelism, originally taking to the airwaves in the 1930s from Eugene, Oregon.

Personal from Herbert W Armstrong - I HAVE JUST come from the residence of Prime Minister Tanaka - Japan's new Premier. Mr. Tanaka was installed in the Prime Minister's office only two weeks ago. This was a preliminary meeting. One of longer duration is planned for later in the week. But I needed to see him this morning, if only briefly, because we had planned a cover story on him in this issue of The PLAIN TRUTH, and I had a deadline to meet. I knew Mr. Tanaka was an early riser, and since he has been in office only a few days, thousands are clamoring to see him.
