Ten years ago, it was thought to be a rare disease, but today there is new concern among public health officials about Simplex Virus Type 2. "HSV-2" is now widespread throughout the population, infecting all ages, social classes and both sexes. Official alarm is well warranted. Not only is the blister-like disease frequently painful, debilitating and acutely disruptive to personal life, but the newly discovered epidemic has a condition mankind fears most in a disease: it is incurable - at least so far.
