"The child in the woman's arms had a stomach hanging out like a plastic bag full of water. The child's skin was drawn tight around its forehead and its eyes were recessed. The mother forced her way through the guides and beat on the car window. She desperately yelled in halting English, 'My baby…dying'…hungry.' "We had been told specifically not to give anyone anything or else we could cause a riot. I was shocked beyond description. I'll never forget that child. " These were the impressions of Mr. Thurman Gaskill, an Iowa farmer, after a trip to India. Mr. Gaskill then went on to attend the World Food Conference in Rome last November where representatives from over a hundred nations gathered to assess the world food problem and hopefully to come up with some solutions.
