Inez is a Roman Catholic nun working in the shantytowns surrounding a major city in Chile. She is also a communist, dedicated to the violent overthrow of the existing government - ready to take up arms, even die in a bloody confrontation if necessary in order to overhaul her society. Inez has made a long journey regarding her personal loyalties: from ostensibly serving Christ, who said, "Resist not evil" and "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you" to serving the gospel of Karl Marx, who called the working class to violent revolution: "Workers of the world unite, you have nothing to lose but your chains."
