Klaus Rothe

They are a small people; he is a giant man- and the task is huge. The people are the Efe Pygmies of the African Ituri Forest in eastern Zaire: average height four feet six inches and average weight 87 pounds. Their champion is Belgian-born six-foot five-inch explorer, sociologist and author Jean-Pierre Hallet, and the task is saving this unique people from the menace of extinction brought on by civilization. The tiny forest people call him "Father of the Pygmies," and Hallet describes them as an original people who have lived in peace with themselves and their environment for thousands of years. In the following interview for The Plain Truth, Hallet brings us up to date on his activities and shares his philosophy of life.
