Science vs. Theology? - DEMONSTRATIONS and disruptions by long-haired, placard-waving students, heated exchanges between the audience and speakers, and open dissent among recognized authorities interrupted many sessions of the 137th annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science held recently in Chicago. The center. of controversy, however, was not a strictly scientific problem, but one with strong moral overtones - the use of science! Should we spend millions of dollars to find out if there is life on Mars? Or should such money and effort be utilized to improve conditions for life here on this earth?
