Tropical ice? What's that a new type of frozen drink? No, it's an adventure! On the equator, you have to climb a long way to reach the snow. And that's what we planned to do. Mt. Kenya, Africa's second highest mountain, was our goal. Kenya (also the name of our country) means" White Mountain," and we eagerly looked forward to climbing to the snow-cove red top of one of its peaks. Our group - six teens, two parents and our minister - had prepared for this climb for a long time. This preparation involved not only running and getting as physically fit as we could, but also borrowing equipment and cloth ing that would be necessary at the high altitude of the mountain. We knew we would need to keep dry and warm and we realized we would need strong shoes.
