The yacht Australia II, with its innovative keel design, had just won the coveted America's Cup, breaking the Americans' 132-year winning streak. As I watched the event on television, and the resultant victory, I felt a twinge of regret. It brought back memories of when I was 15 and had been invited to join a sailing club as a founding member. My parents had wanted me to join, and I wanted to join. But I didn't.
