A friend's daughter was watching her mother wash dishes one night and commented on how many times she had seen her do this, along with her other household tasks. "Mom," she asked, "don't you ever get tired of washing dishes?" "I'm not doing dishes, I'm building a home," she said. Our children are learning from us daily. A significant amount of that learning occurs at home in informal conversations and situations. Even though the parent may not be aware, he or she is "teaching," and the child is learning.
