Facing life's greatest defeat: Have you surrendered to God?Facing life's greatest defeat: Have you surrendered to God?
Ronald A Lohr

Ironic as it may sound, life's greatest defeat is the first step toward life's greatest victory! The defeat is our surrender to God and repentance from sin. The victory is our birth into God's Kingdom. to which true repentance leads (II Corinthians 7:10). As Christians we need to remember that conversion does not occur all at once. Repentance is a continual process of turning from our way of life to God's way of life. Like Paul, we must "die daily" (I Corinthians 15:31), constantly putting our old selves to death and seeking to be more like God. But what a struggle it is - and what an ignominious defeat! Do some of us tend to forget the absolute need for daily repentance? The stakes are life and death. This is a battle we must lose before we can ever win! Total, unconditional surrender is a vital part of the real repentance required for ultimate victory.
